Between December 13th, 2023, and March 10th, 2024, eight trail cameras were placed in the wilderness areas and green spaces surrounding Trent’s Symons campus. In total, we captured 14 images of coyotes in different parts of Trent’s Nature Areas, including Total Loss Farm, where we saw the most, the Trent Rail Trail, and the Trent Wilderness Sanctuary. All of these places are heavily travelled by people and dogs. We counted 1,221 people and 472 dogs (on and off leash). There were no coyote-person or coyote-dog encounters. This may be because they are mostly noctural and/or it may be that they are actively avoiding contact with people.
